Legacy
(by Rachel Williams)

Staring at an empty screen
I can be most anything
Escape things that should not have been
But I'm never really free

Alone in rooms of friends and foe
Feeling things they'll never know
Can't they see my panic grow
Never really free

People seem to float right by
They rarely stop and see me cry
Frustration grows, please tell me why
I'm never really free

Like shadows passing not quite clear
They brush against me much to near
I pull away consumed by fear
Never really free

A gentle hug, a warm embrace
I force a smile to my face
I'd rather not be in this place
I'm never really free

Waiting for a golden light
To shine upon me day and night
Pounding fists with all my might
I'd rather not be me
